Brief Family Therapy

Brief Family Therapy is a solution-focused, 3-6 month plan to address specific goals. It is a combination of parents-only and child-parent sessions. This is best suited for families with the ability to remain consistent outside of session in order to support goals.

Beginning: Parent(s) meet individually with therapist to discuss concerns, complete relevant assessments, and begin a solution-focused treatment plan.

Phase 1: The child and one parent, and then the child and the other parent (if applicable) engage in a structured, guided session for therapist to assess interactions. Therapist will also begin engagement process with child. Family receives "homework" to try at home for 1-3 weeks.

Phase 2:  Therapist will meet with parents and discuss parenting strengths, challenges, and experiences with initial goals. either in person or through online sessions. Therapist will recommend "homework" to again try for 1-3 weeks.

Phase 3: Child will be seen with one caregiver at a time in a series of sessions intended to strengthen connection, engagement, and attunement. Recommendations will be provided following each session.

Ending (1-2 sessions): A summary session to discuss achievement of treatment goals, questions about a plan for moving forward, and guidance about what to continue to work on.
